If you're active on Twitter you'll have noticed the increasingly common (and increasingly irritating) trend of automated Direct Messages (DMs). Usually you'll get one of these when you follow someone, and usually it's something like this:

Usually it's terrible.

I decided to see if it was possible to use social media for its original purpose: being social. Can you really make meaningful connections with strangers on Twitter by sending them automated messages?
